Oasis' Liam Gallagher Buys Film Rights for Beatles Book
Frontman will tackle story of Apple Corps in ‘The Longest Cocktail Party'

He has acquired the cinematic rights to the book 'The Longest Cocktail Party,' which tells the behind-the-scenes story of the Beatles' Apple Corps. Gallagher's newly formed In 1 Productions confirmed today that they will develop and produce a feature film based on Richard DiLello's 1973 book that tracks the rise and near fall of the Beatles' famed record label. No release date for the film has been announced.

Liam Gallagher Producing ‘The Longest Cocktail Party,' The Story Of The Beatles' Demise

Partnering with Revolution Films, Gallagher will head to Cannes next week to launch the project and begin the search for a screenwriter and a director. Once the script is in the can — hopefully at the end of this year or early next year — casting will begin for the Fab Four and the rowdy Apple Records roster and crew. Of course, the production will have to secure the rights to the Beatles' catalog which could cost a pretty penny, but we do hope this one comes together; its a compelling story that will make for fascinating big screen fare.

Liam Gallagher to Make Film about The Beatles' Apple Corps

Former Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher tells Xan Brooks about his ambition to get 'The Longest Cocktail Party' -- a new kind of Beatles biopic with 'no wigs' -- into development.

Liam Gallagher has said the film he was producing about the Beatles' Apple Corps would not herald the start of a movie-making career. The former Oasis singer's new production company, In 1, is set to make a biopic based on Richard DiLello's memoir 'The Longest Cocktail Party,' which charts the "wild rise and fall" of the record company at the end of the 1960s.

But, speaking in Cannes alongside Andrew Eaton of Revolution Films, who will collaborate on the project, Liam said: "I'm not going into films, this is the last thing for me. I mean I'm not going to get sucked into that. I'm going to do this one thing because I like it, and I've got the opportunity to do it, and Andrew's going to make it happen, and that's it."

Liam Gallagher Says Johnny Depp Perfect For Beatles Flick

Liam Gallagher has said that he wants to cast Johnny Depp in his forthcoming Beatles movie.
The ex-Oasis and current-Beady Eye frontman's company In 1 Productions is making a film based on Richard DiLello's 1973 Beatles' history 'The Longest Cocktail Party.' He wants Johnny Depp to take the part of the band's publicist Derek Taylor.

Michael Winterbottom Set to Direct 'The Longest Cocktail Party' About The Beatles' Apple Corps

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher announced in May 2010 his company In 1 Productions is developing a feature about The Beatles' multimedia corporation Apple Corps based on the Richard DiLello book 'The Longest Cocktail Party.' It may take another year or so for all the pieces to come together, but the way the project is shaping up, it will be worth the wait.

Co-producer Andrew Eaton recently revealed that Jesse Armstrong —one of the sharpest writers on the British comedy scene as evidenced by credits on Peep Show, In the Loop, and Four Lions among others —will adapt the screenplay.  Eaton also disclosed plans for Michael Winterbottom —who worked with Eaton on The Trip —to direct when there's a space in his schedule.

As Armstrong works on the script, Eaton and his partners will continue to hammer out a deal with the notoriously finicky Apple Corps:

“That's the minefield. You'd think it would be the perfect time, because Apple are reinventing their brand, they did the iTunes deal, they did Guitar Hero. So they are changing. But because they're doing that, they're more aware of their image than they've ever been. We're doing a bit of a dance at the moment, we haven't really found a way to make it work.”

The negotiations should allow time for schedules to align.  Eaton is preparing for the upcoming release of 360 and working with Winterbottom on post-production on Seven Days.  Winterbottom also has Trishna in the can, and is next attached to direct Bailout with Jack Black in the lead.

Jesse Armstrong adapted Richard DeLello's book 'The Longest Cocktail Party'

Peep Show writer Jesse Armstrong has offered an update into a film he wrote about The Beatles for Liam Gallagher's production company.

Gallagher's interest in adapting Richard DeLello's book 'The Longest Cocktail Party' for the big screen with his production company, In 1 Production, dates back to 2011.

Armstrong was brought in to write the script but has revealed in a new interview with Shortlist that he does not know if the film will ever be released.

“Like a lot of films, it's ‘in development', said Armstrong. “Hopefully something will happen with it, because it's a great story. The book is great source material, so I had a great time adapting it. I don't know if, or when, it will make it to screen, but I hope it does. Liam Gallagher was involved, paid for the script and was a good collaborator.”

Liam Gallagher's Beatles movie fails to Get Backing

Liam was part of a team who in 2010 bought the rights to Richard DeLello's book 'The Longest Cocktail Party,' which tells the story of The Beatles' break-up, and the rocker pumped thousands into making it a big-screen hit.

But plans for the movie have now come grinding to a halt after director Michael Winterbottom and his company Revolution Productions pulled out of the project.

Furthermore, Liam's production company In 1 Productions Ltd, which he set up with his business partners at fashion label Pretty Green to fund and produce the film, has been quietly dissolved.
A source said: “Liam invested heavily in the film when he bought the rights and was intent on making it happen.

“He commissioned someone to write it, started a production company and got a top director on board in the form of Michael. “After that, things started to go downhill. “The script was all wrong and they couldn't get access to The Beatles' back catalogue. Now Liam has backed out of the project.

“He has nothing to do with it anymore and his colleague Chris Jonns has taken on the rights with a view to getting it off the ground one day without him. The whole process has been a mess.”
