Julien's Auctions Lot #29 a
An Ovation Deacon electric guitar in sunburst finish, serial number E 2282, owned and played by Pete Ham of Badfinger.
Accompanied by a Sunn amplification promo poster featuring Pete Ham and Badfinger recording their 1974 album Wish You Were Here at Caribou Ranch studios, with an image of Ham playing his Ovation. The album was quickly pulled following its release due to legal disputes. Additional troubles involving the groups manager absconding with funds contributed to Ham's depression and he tragiclly committed suicide in April of the following year.
Also included is a Letter of Authenticity signed by John Ham, Pete Ham's brother, dated May 11, 2012. The letter details that the guitar was owned and played by Pete Ham when he was a member of Badfinger, and also mentions that Badfinger were Ovation and Sunn Amplification endorsees, and were featured in promotional material for those companies.
The guitar is in good condition, showing hardly any sings of wear. The electronics are in good condition, the volume pot is a bit scratchy. It is housed in it's original brown hardcase that was supplied with the guitar by the Ovation company in the early 1970s.
Julien's Auctions Lot #29 t

This is Pete Ham's Ovation Deacon. Serial number E 2282. The guitar is in the original case and was supplied to Pete Ham by the Ovation company (Kaman) in the early 1970s, along with an Ovation acoustic guitar. Pete used the guitar with Badfinger and can be seen with it while recording in Caribou Ranch Recording Studios. There is a poster for Sunn amplification, which Badfinger also endorsed, on which Pete can be seen with this Ovation Deacon. This comes with a letter from Pete’s brother John, who is pictured here holding the guitar.
