Y&T Music is proud to announce the release of a previously unreleased album by THE IVEYS, "How Much Is The Sky." The album features 19 rare demos, recorded between 1967 and 1969. There were a few major developments since the last Iveys release, titled, "Golden Delicious." The release of Pete Ham's "Gwent Gardens" album was the beginning of a relationship with Y&T Music and with the recent release of Tom Evans' I Am Myself, there was an opportunity to make the physical versions as robust as possible.
This thinking was further applied to the CD release of the new Iveys album, "How Much Is The Sky," which will be released with a 16 page booklet. A new restoration effort of these rare demos, began in June 2023 and has been ongoing since. From reels and cassettes, and from songs that were not known to exist, to songs that were thought to exist but could not be found, these historic recordings will now see the light of day. Badfinger historians Kevin McElligott and Tom Brennan have been working at compiling and restoring these recordings for over a year now, and it is an exciting time because there are more transfers to be done and more music to be discovered and evaluated.
In 1969, tape dubs of 6 Iveys demos were sent to both Paul McCartney and Rolling Stones' manager Andrew Oldham to get their opinions for which songs they should record for a follow-up single to "Maybe Tomorrow." Two of those demos, "Just Look Inside The Cover" and "They'll Be Around" are included in this release and "If You Got Love" [aka "Apron Strings"], "Midnight Sun" and "I've Been There Once Before" appear on the previous Iveys Anthology volume 3, "Golden Delicious Demos: 1966-69." The remaining Iveys demo for "Blodwyn" will appear on a future volume.
This CD edition of "How Much Is The Sky" includes 5 bonus tracks of demos by Iveys' bassist, Ron Griffiths and drummer, Mike Gibbins. Ron composed both "Cool Me Down" and "Girl With The Colourful Eyes" and Mike composed "Face The Sun", "Ain't That Peculiar" and "Tomorrow Never Comes" on guitar. These 5 songs were ever recorded by The Iveys.
